How to: 3DEXPERIENCE Share and Markup Guide

Le 2 April 2025

Did you know that every licence of SOLIDWORKS purchased since July 2023 includes 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud Services?

This provides you with some fantastic online data management features, but also many other useful tools that you can add to your workflow.

A great example is ‘Share and Markup’, which allows you to share your designs with others via a simple web link that they can view anywhere on any device with a browser.

  • They don’t need to have SOLIDWORKS or 3DEXPERIENCE
  • They don’t have to install any software

All they have to do is:

  1. Click your web link
  2. Log in to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform (free of charge)
  3. Review your model and markup any feedback
  4. Send it straight back to you for the next stage in the process

Easy!

How to use 3DEXPERIENCE Share & Marketup

  • Hi, my name is Matt, and I’m an applications engineer with Visiativ US. In today’s demo, I will be showing the Share Markup feature in 3DEXPERIENCE, which allows you to share and collaborate on design ideas with other people, either on or off your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
  • Before we get started, let’s take a quick look at the new and improved Visiativ 3DEXPERIENCE dashboard. On the first tab, you’ll find a web app containing a link to our website, where you can find an instructional video for setting up your own platform, as well as step-by-step instructions.
  • On the second tab, you’ll find a collection of applications and widgets that have been added to improve your experience and keep you connected to us. The first widget contains a link to our support page, where you can create tickets and start remote sessions. The second widget allows you to access all of your SOLIDWORKS serial numbers. The third widget contains links to helpful 3DX resources, and the last widget will take you to your SOLIDWORKS downloads.
  • Now, let’s move on to the Share Markup tool. The next few steps need to be conducted by the platform administrator. First, they must navigate to the platform management dashboard, go to Content Drives and Control Center, and then share with external users. They then simply need to turn on the first two options.
  • In SOLIDWORKS, we can access the share tool from the Lifecycle and Collaboration tab by simply clicking “Share.” Here, we can edit the file name before sharing, choose a file format in which we want to share, and decide where we want to store the shared file on our 3D drive. Then, it’s time to upload the file.
  • We have a few options on how to share the file. We can either activate a sharing link that we can send to others, enable guest comments, and also restrict access to certain email addresses. We can then add a message and share the link or send the Share Markup to the people on the email list.
  • The recipient will receive an email that will take them directly to the 3DX website. They can then log in using their 3DEXPERIENCE ID or create one, which will only take a few minutes. Once they are logged in, they are presented with the file directly in their internet browser. Here, they can make annotations in the form of freehand drawings and notes.
  • Once the markup is fully annotated, it can be returned to the sender, and comments can be added. The SOLIDWORKS user can then access this markup, as well as the conversation attached, directly from SOLIDWORKS while continuing to work on their design.
  • That’s all for this demo on the simple but powerful Share Markup tool available with 3DEXPERIENCE .
  • Thank you for watching.
